Temple Trouble: An Ancient Greece City-State Building Game

Temple Trouble: An Ancient Greece City-State Building Game

Build a city worthy of the gods! Step into the sandals of a mighty ruler in ancient Greece, where every decision shapes the destiny of your city-state. You want your city to be the most prosperous in the land. But success doesn’t come easy—wealth depends on selling surplus grain from bountiful harvests, and those harvests require the blessings of the mighty gods of Olympus.

The catch? The gods are as powerful as they are unpredictable. Winning their favor means building magnificent temples in their honor, but beware—these divine beings are fiercely competitive and easily offended. Neglect one, and you might find yourself facing floods, droughts, or worse!

Can you juggle the whims of Zeus, Athena, Poseidon, and the rest of the pantheon while growing your city's riches and avoiding divine disaster? The stakes are high, the gods are watching, and your city’s fate hangs in the balance.

Welcome to Temple Trouble—a thrilling game of strategy, ambition, and divine diplomacy. Will you rise to the challenge and create a city worthy of Olympus itself?

Object of the Game:  Strategically use your building funds to build as many temples as you can and reap the maximum benefit from honoring the gods. But watch out! If you forget to build a temple to any of the gods, they will send a curse upon your city.

Temples:  Each god and goddess has a reward they are waiting to bestow, but also a punishment if you dare to skip building them a temple. Each of these rewards is themed to the specific god or goddess, teaching students details about Greek mythology. Note:  The basic version of this game appears in Reaching Olympus: Heroes, Beasts, and Monsters.

Gameplay Style:  This game plays like a pencil-paper version of Sim City or Age of Mythology

Two Modes of Gameplay:

  • Beginner:  Play the game with only one objective: grow the most grain!
  • Advanced:  Play the game with two objectives: grow the most grain and increase your population.

Length:  40-50 minutes

Number of Players:  1-35+

This game teaches:

  • Ancient Greek culture
  • The Greek Gods and Goddesses
  • Strategy
  • Simple Math

Includes FREE SCORE CHECKER!  Don’t worry about checking your students’ scores! This download comes with free access to two spreadsheets that will allow students to double-check their math for both beginner and advanced modes of gameplay.
